Meet Al Steele, owner of Wyatt Earp Records in Flint.
Q: What's a typical day like for you?
A: Come in, listen to music, talk to people that want music. It's always been a hobby, and now I make a living with it. Order stock, clean up; whatever the business needs, I do it. I play air guitar and wish I was still young.
Q: How did you come to work at the store?
A: I was in a record store every day when I was a kid. The best advice I got was to do something you love for a living. The opportunity presented itself, and I took it. (Original store owner) Doug Earp picked me as a partner, and I always felt proud and blessed that he picked me. His mom told me he picked me because he didn't want me as a competitor.
Q: What has been the strangest thing you've experienced on the job?
A: The strangest thing was that I met my current wife because of the store. She kept coming in and asking me to go out with her. So I met the love of my life at work.
Q: What was your first job?
A: Delivering newspapers. I learned more from my paper route than any of my business classes in college.
Q: What is the one thing you cannot live without?
A: Music.
Q: Given a free day, what would you choose to do?
A: The one day a week I get off is spent doing chores and relaxing. And it's a family day.
Q: Who would you most like to meet?
A: President Obama. I'd like a one-on-one with him. I have a lot of respect for him, and I'd like to pick his brain on a personal level.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: A month off to spend with my wife.
Q: If you could create the perfect job, what would it be?
A: I already have it.
